Educational Objectives:

Participants in this CME-certified WebCAST will:

  • Learn about advances in oral anticoagulation based on new mechanisms involving inhibition of the coagulation cascade and possible implications for prophylaxis of stroke and arterial thromboembolism in the setting of atrial fibrillation.
  • Learn about the mechanisms involved in thromboembolic prevention and the rationale for identifying agents with predictable anticoagulation, in the absence of clinical monitoring.
  • Learn about current ACCP, ACC, AHA, and AAN guidelines for stroke prevention in the setting of AF.
  • Learn about novel, evidence-based approaches for residual risk reduction and secondary prevention of adverse thromboembolic events (stroke) in the setting of atrial fibrillation, and related conditions.
  • Learn how to apply landmark clinical trials focusing on thromboembolic risk prevention in patients with ACS and atrial fibrillation.
  • Learn about the implications of employing oral, non-monitored anticoagulants with clinical effects mediated by novel mechanisms of action.
  • Learn to risk stratify patients, assess their likelihood for incurring stroke in the setting of AF and be aware of current and evolving prophylaxis measures that can reduce the incidence of stroke.
